I. Training Circle
Heaving the maul up on his shoulder, Taas grins a little bit as he steps out of the ring. That had been a pretty good fight, and he's pretty certain the soldier would remember to keep his balance with a large weapon this time.
Rolling his neck a bit, the big warrior limbers up a bit before reaching to grab the mug of ale by the side, taking a drink from that before he turns back. "Anyone else?"
II. Sign Language 101
The warrior isn't sure how the little lessons in sign language he had given Cyril and Sam now seemed both common knowledge but gaining interest from other people. It makes him a little bit awkward as he tries to explain the difference between spoken words and the way sign language worked for what felt like the umpteenth time.
He was happy, really. It made his life a lot easier, and if he expanded it, it could even give the troops a way to communicate silently with something more detailed than hand signals. At other times, he's pretty certain they only want an excuse to flirt with him.
"So... why do you want to learn this?" He asks, brown eyes studying the new arrival.
III. Tavern
Taas doesn't spend as much time in the tavern as he used to, but when he does come in to drink and have a good time, he allows himself to completely relax and set everything else aside. With booze, music and friends, he could bury the events of the last missions far back in his head and instead just enjoy the moment.
Catch up with friends, meet new people, pick up someone for the night.
Afterwards, he either went home with that somebody or walked out alone in the courtyard, buzzed and smiling as he looked up into the sky. Skyhold really had a beautiful night sky even with the torches and braziers going, and the sound from the tavern - song and laughter - settled his body and mind into something worthy of his name.
Calm.
IV. Wildcard!

"More honestly, it's to help. Not everyone who cannot hear can speak clearly as you can, and I assume that sometimes it's difficult to lip read. It will be easier to ask specific medical questions if I can sign, as well." Anders shrugs. "That, and I'll be certain that whenever I'm talking with my hands I'm not saying something entirely rude as well. Or I can say entirely rude things while sounding... somewhat diplomatic." As diplomatic as he ever manages, that is.
no subject
Even if so only for quiet orders.
"You're a smart man, and I'm glad that you showed up here. I may be the only deaf soldier so far, but there is safety in being able to communicate silently for both soldiers and healers." He nods at the man to take a seat wherever he felt comfortable. "Do you know any sign at all?"
no subject
"Drink," Anders says, and makes the sign. "Or perhaps that's water? It was used by a few Darktown residents." Safety, practicality, it's a whole new world and he needs the skills for it.
no subject
There's a small shrug as he starts explaining the basics again, spending a little extra time explaining very important signs such as 'help' both for the soldiers sakes and Anders. Taas is pretty sure he's going to end up hurt one day out there, and communicating was key.
"Any questions for today?"
no subject
Anders takes notes as Taas teaches, tilting his head at the question.
"What would you most wish people knew? What would make your life easier on a day-to-day basis if the sign got spread around?"
no subject
Looking over at Anders, he takes a moment to think. "Mostly signs that call for attention or brief explanations. I personally don't need to hold full conversations in sign, but it's nice to not have to guess a third of what I read on lips all the time." That's how you got really confusing misunderstandings.
"'Help', 'I Can't Hear', 'I Need A Pen', 'Look At Me', 'Calm Down'... all of these are good for both me and anyone else that cannot hear. That and general soldier signs like 'Hold Up' and 'New Orders'."
no subject
There's a beat before he gives Taas an amused look. "And perhaps 'stop' as well, and 'I'm about to use magic to heal you,' as simple as you can make that."
no subject
"I'll write them down for you and you can go over them whenever you have time so they stick," Taas says with a nod. "As for 'I'm about to use magic to heal you', just 'magic' 'heal' with a questioning expression is the quickest and easiest way to do it. Expressions have a lot of use in sign language." He pauses and chuckles slightly. "The woman who taught me to sign would 'yell' at me with the most murderous expression."
no subject
"I'd not mind a lesson, later, on what gestures to make to proposition someone. Simply because I'd like to hold a talking conversation with my lover and then hold another where he's no idea what I'm saying. But it's not a priority." Playing with Nate will happen in one way or another.
no subject
"Hah, sounds like he'll be in for some surprises. You can do some damn good sexy talk in sign, but it might look completely innocent or weird to others. I'm planning on seeing how much of it I can get away with in public." There's an oversized wink.
"You should try some of these..." The warrior starts showing Anders some rather interesting combinations of sign...
no subject
He follows along with Taas' gestures, repeating, taking notes, repeating again, and his smile grows.
"Thank you, Taas. I'll be sure to practice them all, not just the sexy ones." There's a lot of work ahead of him if he's to really learn, but at least it's another project that can't get him in more trouble. "Would you mind if I came by from time to time to continue learning?"
no subject
"You're quite welcome, and I would be happy to see more of you for some more lessons. Most people come for basics, but it's always good to have more advanced signers around." For all kinds of things, really.
no subject
If there had been people in Kinloch Hold who spoke Ander... but that's in the past, and there's no changing it. At least he can speak some of Taas' language now, and he can learn more.
"I'll see you later for another lesson, then. Say in a week, if you're free?
no subject
"Keep practicing. All of them," he adds with a wink, obviously meaning the flirting ones.
