It's not every day the First Warden has a birthday party. In fact, it only happens once a year, provided multiple First Wardens don't get offed. It's been known to happen.

But it isn't happening any time soon, likely, which means the big birthday party with a lot of invitees is the best place to crash to try to get some desperately needed information. And while there are certainly dignified ways to do it, by slipping in a few bards or some servants, dignity is low on the list for this infiltration.

Their mission, as they've chosen to accept it, is to gather information while pretending to be entertainers. Let's hope this doesn't self destruct in five, four, three, two...

[He's musing out loud, going over the information they were given.]

Have you ever done any juggling with fireballs? Or spiritballs, seeing as those would be a little less dangerous.

[Be proud of him. He manages not to snicker after 'spirit balls.']

[Oh, she is. Inessa tilts her head, thoughtful.]

That's more feasible, I suppose. Garahel can't carry my part for me all the time. [She scratches behind his ears gently.]

And no, I haven't. I doubt this is what my teachers had in mind when it came to magic, but what they don't know won't hurt them.

What about you, are you ready to be a performer?

The more used to seeing magic people become, the better.

[What you're used to is harder to be afraid of. What you haven't seen much of, that's where fear comes from.]

And I...

[He shrugs.]

I'll do the best I can.

[Sometimes he likes all eyes on him. At a dance, for instance. But generally speaking Anders is the class clown for self-preservation, not because he was born to be an entertainer.]

I'm leading a mission. I need to show that I can lead it to completion, successfully, and for that I'll do what I need to do.

[Inessa's expression grows more solemn and she nods.]

We'll ensure that happens, Anders. No one here will shirk their part, however talented -or otherwise- we might be. You're leading this, but you have our support.

[Garahel, listening to them, barks in agreement from his spot.]

[His expression is warm despite his nerves. He's not alone in this. None of them are, they're a team, but he's not going to be left to fail and that means so much.]

I can teach you how to juggle spirit if you'd like. You do enough healing work that I'm certain you've the level of spirit ability you'd need.

Healing and barriers, mainly.

[She glances over to the kettle; the water still has time to heat up, at least if she doesn't add magic to it. And there's no real rush.]

I'm ready and willing, then. Show me your spirit-juggling skills.

[It's still more than plenty of mages can do. Anders nods and casts, forming three orbs of spirit and holding them in the air over his palms.]

This is the first step. Form and stabilize them, one at a time if you need to.

[Garahel, starting to doze, perks up and watches the spirit orbs with interest. Inessa's never done this kind of magic around him, after all.]

I suppose to start with I should, though if I'm to be a 'professional entertainer', I ought graduate to your method.

[She forms an orb, peering at it and wondering if she can really pull this off. But she might as well try, right?]

Professional just means you get paid.

[It's something he's heard Isabela say, and once it's out he wonders if that's true or just her making a joke about sleeping around. It's honestly hard to tell.]

Or so I've heard. I could always teach you how to shimmy instead, if you wanted.

[That gets her to laugh, a more relaxed sound than she's made since starting the trip.]

You remember what I said about my skills, didn't you? I don't think I would keep anyone's attention with that display. Your other idea is much more preferable.

Second orb, [he says encouragingly, but there's a smile on his face after her laughter. He likes making people laugh. A shame he doesn't think he could get up and do jokes for this party.]

Perhaps lessons in shimmying can come later.

Is this a Warden-wide offer? Now that would be a sight to see.

[Inessa summons another orb, shifting the first to one hand rather than cupping it with both.]

[Anders snickers, starting to slowly rotate the orbs so she can get a feel for that when she's ready.]

That would be a sight. Maybe I should make the offer and see who shows up. But certainly Wardens only. I don't need to share too many secrets with other groups. Would you be attending?

Perhaps I should...for Warden solidarity.

[She watches him first, then attempts to follow his lead. If she can't manage fluid grace, she can at least fall back on muscle memory.]
