When one was thinking about a very drunk dwarf who was rough around the edges and more than a little gross and perverted, one did not usually expect to find said dwarf in the market looking around at different toys and games for children. Yet this was where Oghren was for most of this month, studying the different things there and grumbling to himself as he debated whether one was better than another. Would this be fun? Would anyone want something like this one here?
Crossing his arms, he stared at one stand, looking back and forth between a board game and what looked like a wooden puzzle that made a duck. One of those brain teaser things that he obviously he would never be able to solve.
"Felsi's better at this than I am," he mumbled before noticing someone watching him. "Looking at a free show here?"
Okay maybe he was a little moody because he hated being so bad at this. Don't mind him.
[ooc: Oghren is looking for toys/games to send to his kid! Don't mind him being moody though. He's just having issues with the fact that he feels like a failure of a dad for not knowing how to toy shop.]

"No, just - ah... not the sort of thing I imagine you shopping for, Oghren."
He has questions, Oghren. So many questions. Why are you swimming in oil, duckie?

...This one here was young. He'd seen some things not that long ago. Maybe he had a better idea about what children liked up on the surface. After all, it had been ten years since he'd had this kid and he still was clueless so any help would be amazing at this point.
"Know anything about what children like to play with?"

He had no idea who Felsi was, but he was doing to guess it was a woman given what he knew of Oghren's tastes from their past conversations, and the nugget was obviously a child. So he was... buying for a child. His child? A niece or nephew? Possible it was a cousin, but he doubted that. Potentially a god parent, but he wasn't even sure if they had that practice in Thedas, so likely not that either. A younger sibling, perhaps, but also unlikely he felt.
"I guess it depends on how old the kid is," he said slowly, still a bit baffled by the whole scene before him, much less Oghren even asking that question.

It wasn't like he could go be with them much now but this was for the best. At least this way he was still in his child's life. Learning about him, getting to know him. But it could be so sodding hard sometimes to figure this stuff out.

"Eleven, huh?" Kirk said, glancing between the two choices and scrunching his nose as he thought. Neither was exactly a bad choice, but that depended on the kid, didn't it? "What's he like? Either could be good for a kid who likes mental challenges, but if he's more of the outdoor and mischief type I would get him something studier that he can carry around with him to play." He had spent most of his childhood outside, so he was better suited towards that in way of advice.
But hell, what did he know about kids or fathering? He barely managed being the big brother or uncle type.

"Doesn't have many friends but sure likes thinking a lot."

"Well, then maybe some puzzles or some books. Things to keep his mind going," Kirk suggested with a nod. "I was a mix of the two as a kid - I liked reading, solving puzzles and riddles, but I also liked making the authorities chase after me so..." He gave a half shrug, only a little sheepish and laughed. "I think the puzzle would be good for sure."

"My criminal record would say so, yes," he nodded with a soft laugh. "Hopefully your own kid keeps his nose a little cleaner. But only a little." He glanced around the offerings on the table and reached towards the middle-back. He pulled out a new puzzle-type, setting it down with the one Oghren had already chosen.
"There. Enough to keep him occupied, but in a good way."

He blinked as the man pulled out another puzzle, one he hadn't seen. For a second, he cursed being so short before he gave a grumble and decided to just...suck it up. He was getting help making his kid happy, after all.
"Thanks. He'll like these I think."
no subject
"Good. I'm glad," he smiled, honestly happy that he had helped out on this. It was illuminating, to say the least, seeing Oghren like this. Who knew the walking fart and belch cloud had such a side to him? It looked good on Oghren, he thought. Softened him a bit, in a good way, even if it was only for the duration of this conversation.
"What's your kid's name?" he asked.

He picked up one of the puzzles and tried to figure it out. Not that he was sure why he was trying since he'd never figure it out but he felt he had to at least give a try. Just to say he did that much anyway.

There is a pause as once again he squints at Oghren.
He doesn't want to judge. He doesn't want to be that type of person. But... Bartab? Really? Bar-tab? Like as in a bar tab? Something you rack up, at a bar, over drinks? He squinted for just a moment, as if wondering if the other was pulling his leg. Yet Oghren seemed honestly devoted to his child, so why would he give him a ridiculous name? Maybe it actually meant something, and the Common happened to sound like something you probably should not name your child.
"What does it mean?" he decided to ask, considering how Oghren described it. He was to curious not to.
no subject
Yep. He said it. Like that tab you get at a bar. And he wasn't about to say that it was anything other than that. (Even though it was but gotta keep those feeling things bottled up.)
no subject
"I... okay, I have to ask this - why?"
Because surely his mother did not agree to that. Surely not? Or... well he had no idea who the mother was or what her temperament was. Hell, she had slept with Oghren, so he expected someone of a similar ilk.

And a good way to keep people from thinking he was some kind of sap for what he really named his child. That was honestly another story entirely though. One he wasn't sure he wanted to go into now until he got to know this kid better.
