Welcome to the Great Building Project of 9:42, Dragon! So you've come to help construct some living structures and barracks? Excellent, there are several areas in which everyone's help is needed.

Clearing

The Mage Council themselves have dedicated themselves to clearing out the valley, and flattening it as well, so buildings can be constructed. They'll need all the magical help they can get, honestly, and even that will include people to help clear away the wood to be used for building, as well as the stone and other materials. It will be a lot of heavy lifting, carrying, or being able to drive a cart.

Building

Of course there is the building. Holding up walls, hammer and nails, thatch on the roofs, cutting out awkward window where necessary. Putting together fireplaces and firepits. The deft of hand and light of feet are the ones who can climb the roofs, move around without any problems to haul up sod and other things to plug the holes on the roof to make for a snug small hut, or a long and clean barrack hall.

Healing

And of course, there are accidents. Someone accidentally hammers their own hand, falls off a roof, gets a splinter in their finger. The healers themselves are going to need fresh water and herbs brought in, as well as food brought to keep them going.

Fetching/Carrying

Messages need to be brought back and forth between the builders. Water needs to be brought to the thirsty, as well as food. There are a million little things that need to be done to complete this great endeavor, so feel free to help out whatever little way you feel you can.

Katniss

Katniss is everywhere.

There's not a place you won't see the slender young woman, dark hair pulled back in a braid that is coming out in wisps. Dirt smudges her face and hands, but there's a faint smile on her face and no matter what she's doing, she's humming softly. At her heel is the wolf pup, who trots along beside her faithfully, and stands guard while Katniss is up atop a roof, hammering.

She's carrying water to give to people who are building, as well as food. Lifting bundles of stick and rock out of the way, or walking with a builder, murmuring softly over the plans.

Need to talk to her? Just snag her. She'll be glad to stop and talk to anyone who is helping out here.

Christine watches him head off before addressing the mage who brought him.

"It was good of you to bring him over, Miss...?"

[aceso]

"Ah, less than ten, but more than five, I am afraid." Christine gives her head a brief shake. "Instead of working together, they are showing off, trying to one up each other or show the mages that hard labor is just as good as magic. And then they wonder how they are getting hurt."

"Well, now you don't have to travel all the way out there." Bethany stated with a little smile. She offered out the basket to her, tilting her head to the side.

"Besides, it will give us a chance to talk more, if you don't mind me hanging about while you eat."

James arched an eyebrow, and giving him a close look. "Well, you do appear to be completely normal ... so yes, I will take some water."

"Yet here we are again." She sighed, again, looking at her fingertips. "You're right, I had a home. A family. But it's gone. I can't ever have it back. I don't know if I'll ever feel that safe again."

That has Korrin rolling her eyes. "Yeah, I've some of that sentiment about mages when I've been around energizing stuff. And then acting like I don't the right to be exhausted when I just spent hours moving blocks around, same as them." Well, not exactly the same. But it's still strenuous, nonetheless. Then she snickers. "I think I know where some of it came from. Metaari's been walking around shirtless while helping out. Anyone seeing the amount of muscle has to feel inadequate by comparison."

Leaning over, slightly, Korrin reaches out and curls her fingers around Katniss' smaller hand and gives a gentle squeeze. "You never know, Katniss, it could happen. Our future isn't set, good or bad. Thedas isn't destroyed yet. We still draw breath. Anything is possible."

Were she not also a mage, Christine would probably be as ignorant as those they're speaking of, but she does know the strain they put their bodies through when exhausting their magic.

"Oh?" she asks, exhaling a laugh. "So has Sam. I wonder what they think of a mage taking his shirt off to work."

Between clearing paths, coordinating sweeps of magic to level the land or move building material for ease of assembly, circling around to check in with each group of mages assisting in the effort, Adelaide finds the time to find Korrin and offer a bobbing, green glow of a mana wisp, something to make the work she's doing simpler. "How is the work going so far?"

Clearing

Even Adelaide could only work so much magic in one day before needing a few hours break to regain her wellspring of mana. Clearing fields and leveling ground are not things she does often- it takes more out of her. Needing time to rest her magic, however, is not time to rest entirely. Manual labor is wearying but required. How she ended up on the other side of a saw with Varric she can't quite remember, but it's simple work. Repetitious and exhausting, but solid work none the less.

"Perhaps we'll clear room enough for a mill when we're finished with this. I doubt we'll run out of reason to break down lumber." Down to shirtsleeves herself and leathers, hair stuck to her temples and curled damp at the nape of her neck, Adelaide leans against the tree they'd been working on until he gives leave for them to continue.

Taking advantage of the wisp's presence, Korrin finishes the last of her immediate work, propping up a walkway for the builders to ascend. Turning back to Adelaide, she wipes her brow. "It's going well, I think. No real complaints. After laying around forever in the healing tents or in my room, it feels good to be productive again. We're making good progress...perhaps even better, if Metaari and Sam weren't distracting people with their shirtlessness."

That gets Korrin snickering and she glances in the direction of where she last saw him. "I think they were confused. One one hand, he's a mage so they shouldn't enjoy watching him. On the other, he's...very well defined. Who wouldn't enjoy the show?"

Christine raises an eyebrow and then sighs, looking away.

"It is completely unfair that he is attractive, you know. I have come to think of him as a kind of... brother, I suppose. Therefore he should be unattractive. Perhaps with a hooked nose or blemishes. It is very rude."

Korrin chuckles, not about to deny that Sam is easy on the eyes even as she has no interest in him herself. Not the way things are going for her now. "Extremely rude. I suppose someone will have to draw blemishes on his face while he's napping, then. You know, as a way of evening things out.

...don't tell Sera I said that, she'd probably put something extremely vulgar."

Cyril smiles happily at Sam drinking the water. "I'm still willing to get you all wet," he says. "Though it might hamper your progress."

"Warden Hawke." She smiled, offering her hand to the other woman, "You do incredible work, Healer. You have a true gift for healing.'

"It's not possible to make my mother come back, Korrin. Or for people to accept me for who I am, both sides." She sighed as she squeezed her friend's hand back tightly. "Might be possible I find a few like you who don't care, though."

"Oh? How do you figure?" he asks, using the back of his wrist to wipe at the water along his chin. Silently he lifts the cup for permission to get another cup of water.

He takes the cup and refills it for Sam before handing it back. "Because anyone who finds men attractive will have to stop and stare."

Well he wasn't exactly expecting that, looking down at the cup with a huff, feeling his cheeks grow just a little hot. "Well then I suppose it wouldn't my progress being hampered, but rather everyone else's."

That gets a laugh out of Christine and she dips her head in agreement.

"That foul-mouthed woman always speaking of arrows? I can promise you I will not tell her. I do not dislike Sam that much."

Christine's face shifts expression slightly on hearing just who the woman is. Not only one of the Wardens harboring Anders, but a Hawke as well. In that case, she probably supports her sister's foolish judgment of Anders. The warmth leaves her face, replaced with first surprise, and then a more formally polite expression.

"I see." Her eyes lower to the offered hand, and she only takes it because it's the polite thing to do, and people speak of the rudeness of Orlesians quite enough. She won't add to it.

"I thank you for saying so. I studied many years." When she releases the woman's hand, she moves to cross her arms. "I have no wish to keep you from things."

Bethany watches the woman, a faint frown covering her face until she realizes - ah, yes, this must be another person who did not agree with what the Wardens had done with Anders. Well, she wasn't one to belabor a point, but at least perhaps she might be able to get more reading material.

Clearly, by crossing her arms over her chest, the woman was not open to discussion, but perhaps just a quick book list...

"I am working on learning certain trees for Spirit magic." She stated, folding her hands behind her instead. "I was wondering if you had any suggestions for reading?"

[gatheringstorm]

"Arrows or butts, yes. And I'll refrain from that, I promise. Sera's fun, but restraint isn't her strong point." And as much as she wants to tease Sam, that would be going a bit too far. So, she'll rein it in, just a little.

"Exactly." Korrin darts a small smile as Katniss seems to understand what she was aiming at. "No, you can't regain what was lost. But that doesn't mean you can't make a new family for yourself, blood-related or not. A lot of people on my company have done just that; those that stick around, we're as tight-knit as any you'll find. It makes that lack of acceptance on the outside a lot easier to bear when you have people at your back, trust me."
