Kain arrives on the scene just in time to catch that display of the shard’s strange power. He’s about to leap in to Jamie’s defense the moment his weapon is knocked away. But then there’s that sudden bright glow and the scream from the enemy as it physically damages him.

“What was that?” Kain asks, as he leaps in to finish off the fighter with a swift stab of his lance. There’s no time to talk for long, he realizes, but seriously… what was that? He’s more than a little concerned, now, knowing that shards can do that. He had no idea. Not that it’s a bad thing, of course, being cornered like that but… well… seeing the shards behave unexpectedly makes him uneasy.
