From her nearby vantage, Aveline spots the man lose his weapon to the warrior he fought. She's close, and not much stands in her way -- just as her shield is raised to catch the oncoming sword and she's within distance to help, something else entirely happens.

The flash of green light that takes him is a surprise -- not just to her or the warrior, either. So that is what those marks are capable of.

As the man seems to come back to it, Aveline doesn't drop her momentum and slams the shield into his face, buying Jamie a few moments to snap out of it.
