The spell hits him, sinking into his skin in a way that always puts a shiver up his spine. He can feel it in his bones as the barrier spell fades and this one takes its place, tingling, that sudden slowing of the rest of the world as he grins wide and toothy before taking his next swing.

The hide of the creature is tough, tough as a dragon's, and textured in a way that tries to grip onto the axe after he's swung and connected. But with those murderous swings coming faster now, it's harder for the varghest to retaliate, lashing out instead by bucking like a horse, claws splayed in all directions and tail whipping about.

One manages to score a hit, apparently, because there's a grunt and a splash of blood across the sand, before Bull takes all his strength in lifting his axe to bring down across the animal's neck.
