It's not often that Hermione meets people quite so earnest, especially not here. Most of the Thedosians she meets only seem interested in her world insofar as her magic might pose some sort of danger to them, or else that her views on elves and other non-humans are refreshing and occasionally even welcome. Sam seems to be interested in her and her world simply because he is, and she appreciates that more than she knows how to say. "I'd tell you anything you like to know. We usually keep our magic a secret back home, but somehow, I think the International Statute of Secrecy doesn't really apply here, so I've been more open than I otherwise might."
