WHO: Cosima Niehaus - and you?
WHAT: Catch-all log for August
WHEN: Handwavey depending on when your character will be around Skyhold
WHERE: ...Skyhold
NOTES: While Cosima is going to be ill in one of the starters, it is fair to assume she'll be back on her feet within a week or two, so feel free to assume she looks fine if you run into her outside the healer's tent. (Alternately, if you'd like her looking a little peaky as a hook, that works too!) If you want something other than the hooks below, or want to chat first, DM me or grab me on plurk.

I. Healer's Tents

Cosima has been instructed to rest, and at first, the instruction is unnecessary; she's too weak to do much else. But spirit healing seems to have done the trick, at least temporarily, and as her strength starts to come back, it brings her curiosity with it. Thus, whenever no one is there to order her back to her cot, she wanders - mostly respectfully keeping her distance, but occasionally asking a question if she thinks she can get away with it. Some of the healing is related to medicine as she understands it. Some of it she has no frame of reference for at all. But concerns like "not wearing herself out" are secondary to learning more about what's going on as they patch people back together. She's not as well as she'd like to think, but she's well enough to get restless.

II. Kitchens

It is well known that convalescence requires baked goods. Cosima is still hesitant about overstepping, since she technically hasn't joined the Inquisition; she's a refugee, and she's well aware of how long she wouldn't last if someone decided to kick her out. So she is very scrupulous about asking first before she takes anything and about trying not to be unreasonable in how frequently she asks.

It's not her fault that those little buns with the jam that tastes like peach in the center are so addictive.

III. Various Around Skyhold - Roommate Search

Once she's determined that she's eligible for a barracks room, Cosima has decided to get one. What she hasn't entirely resigned herself to facing is a randomly assigned roommate. She's too old for that nonsense. On the other hand, she doesn't exactly have a huge roster of acquaintances to ask. So she's compromising by asking around. If someone else is looking for a roommate, at least they can have a beer together and make sure they don't hate each other before committing to cohabitation.

"Approved. You tell my CMO that if he tries to shoo you away," he grinned, sneaking another sweet to pop in his mouth, savoring the sweetness mixed with the fruitiness.

He made a noise, considering for a moment, before - "A burger. God, I would kill for a burger."

"It is a wonder that people did not think of frying things earlier," he shook his head, already imagining something delicious and golden and potentially greasy. It was practically wet dream worthy.

"Haha, sorry, it's hard to change some of the chemistry structures of things, but that doesn't mean we haven't figure out ways to properly indulge," he promised her. "Bones would still be heavily against thinks like donuts despite his Southern upbringing."

Sadly, there are some things no amount of science can fix.

"He's a doctor, Cosima, not soulless," he shook his head. "We do have a fully stocked bar on the ship too. We're not savages."

"It is, though we have better ways to pain manage now than something that dilutes brain function, even temporarily. But some people like it for the hollistic and Earth-natural aspect," he shrugged nonchalantly, snagging another treat. God they were addictive. "The real drug problems now come from off world. Some things the human body was simply not meant to ingest in any form."

"Oh, no, of course it hasn't stopped anyone from trying," he laughed. "It's certainly gotten some people to be more... creative, to say the least, and has sparked another type of "war on drugs", though the outlawed ones are the type that, well, tend to turn human insides and brains to mush when used, which I think is fair."

It was bound to happen, of course, when interstellar trade started. And it went both ways.

"All the 'legal' stuff is more or less harmless, though you still can't drive or operate heavy machinery while on them."

He huffed a laugh, deciding to be strong and not take another of the peach treats, stopping his hand from reaching out for one, if only just. "No, it most certainly is not, and is highly frowned upon. Especially when working around the nacells." You know, those things that made his ship go and were the equivalent of several nuclear megatons.

"Well, I'm not the one driving, per say, that's Sulu, but still. Warp speed would be far to trippy when high, I think, anyways."

"They're used to power the ship and direct said power, especially into the warp cores," he explained. "They're fidgety at best. I really don't trust anyone but my head engineer to handle them."

Resist, he shall be strong. His fingers are twitching though. They're just so good...

He nodded. "We get shore leave, now and then, though it's never for very long. We usually go many months before we're allowed leave, if some other incident doesn't call us away first."

There were only so many ships in the Fleet, after all, and space was vast. When it came to answering distress calls and missions, it was less about who was the best suited sometimes and rather who was closest.

He laugh aloud at this. "We have a pool, gym, theatre rooms, a bowling alley. They gave us plenty of ways to amuse ourselves between shore leaves."
