Lonely I, I'm so alone now [open]

WHO: Rey and you?
WHAT: Rey settling in to live in the hold
WHEN: after August 10
WHERE: various spots all over Skyhold
NOTES: I have a permissions post for her jedi magics if you're so inclined, if you want a specific starter hmu on pm or plurk.

i. the ramparts

Rey is used to feeling alone. Most of her life has been a self-fulfilling prophecy of loneliness, and every time she thought she may have found a friend she was betrayed or abandoned. Standing on the ramparts overlooking the valley of the mountains she had learned were called the Frostbacks, she wraps her arms a little tighter around herself, reflecting. She'd really thought for a second that she had found her true place in the galaxy, her true calling. Now, she doesn't know what she's supposed to do.

"Probably should have gone back to Jakku," she mutters to herself, a humorless smile touching her lips as she shivers in the wind.

ii. the main hall

She picked a table that looked fairly out of the way, but was near enough to one of the sconces that she could see what she was doing. She isn't trying to stand out, and she keeps her head down, eyes focused on the partly disassembled lightsaber on the table in front of her. She's never worked on a lightsaber before, but the best way to figure out how to fix something is usually to take it apart. Everything she's carefully meticulous about, because she wants to remember how to put it back together. It's not really hers after all. Luke Skywalker would probably be upset if she ruined his old lightsaber.

"Looks like this piece blew out and..." she occasionally mutters something, as she figures out why exactly the lightsaber doesn't seem to be working, when it had been in fine working order before she'd passed through the Rift. It likely won't make sense to anyone passing by her little makeshift worktable.

iii. the library

In her wandering, Rey finds herself in Skyhold's library, and in an odd state of reverence. Paper and leather-bound books are extremely uncommon on Jakku, the weather and poor living conditions making it extremely impractical to keep something that could become ruined so easily. She walks the stacks, just looking at all the different books, and absently picking one with an interesting script on the spine. She opens it, expecting to find a new world of knowledge, but the look of disappointment that flashes across her face is plain as she realizes she can't read the script on the page.

"This isn't Basic, how do they read this?" she frowns down at the pages, turning a few as if that will divulge it's secrets.

It wasn't that Korrin had wanted to take a break from the healing tents, but since Asher had other company and her appetite had slightly returned, she decided a quick trip to the kitchen was in order. Loading a plate and filling a pitcher with some cider, Korrin headed back up and glanced for a decent place to sit. She wasn't purposely going out of her way to choose any company, just tired and full of heartache and wanting to put her feet up for a bit. So she did, thus claiming the seat before her as well, as she poured herself cider while breaking off a piece of bread and cheese.

The tall, horned woman glances over toward Rey...or it would have just been a passing glance until what she's working on is noted. Her eyebrows raise, not really expecting to see that particular weapon on anyone but a certain rifter liaison.

"Hey. You alright?"

The voice is casual, but there's friendly concern there just the same. She's a new face around here, and new faces should be taken account for. For a number of reasons.

But friendly concern can absolutely be one of those reasons.

If Rey turns, she'll see the source of the voice coming down the battlements, over seven feet with broad horns and an eyepatch, a Qunari who ought to look incredibly intimidating. Except for that look on his face, a sort of squint to his eyes that says he's wondering why she's not dressed a little warmer if she's walking around up here.

Definitely new, then.

What the deal is with the junk on the table is a complete mystery to her, but really that is the least of Avery's concerns at the moment. Half in and half out of one of the hall's side-passages, she's frowning deeply and clearly scanning the room for... something? Or someone?? And only stopping to look at Rey when she fails to find what she's been looking for, probably just because she happens to be the closest person who doesn't look too important to bother.

"Oi," she calls, though not too loudly. "You there. You seen a kid in a stupid little hat run through here?"

"What's Basic?"

Raylan was nearby, pulling down a heavy book as thick as his arm. He exhaled with the effort, hefting it onto his hip so he could stand and talk a moment. "It ought to be written in Common. Is that not what they teach where you're from?" Raylan was fairly sharp, despite the dumb country bumpkin accent, and he'd spotted the light flickering from her hand.

Sometimes people are used to the cold and run around in next to nothing, Bull, and honestly Malcolm can't understand it. So seeing someone unfamiliar (not unusual these days, really) up here in some clothing but not enough to look warm, he has a care of concern. "My lady," he says, taking long strides up to her, "you're going to catch a death of chill out here. Aren't you cold?"

It's not so much Rey that catches his attention as what she's working on. It's not often he sees pieces of advanced technology here, so of course he spots it from quite a ways off. He almost reflexively reached to touch is communicator, but he kept it in Sam's room, tucked away in a drawer. It was just a useless piece of metal, true, but it was important and he didn't want to accidentally lose it.

"I wouldn't get your hopes up. Tech doesn't play so nicely here," he said to her gently, sitting down across from her with a cold sandwich.

"I can offer a translation guide, if you're interested," Obi-Wan replied, leaning against the railing, not far away, "Basic and Common translate fairly easily, once you get the hang of it."

He's only recently returned to Skyhold, from Orlais, but the moment he set foot past the foothills, he'd felt it. And the Force only sang louder, the closer her came, until passing the curtain-wall made him certain; there was a Jedi here.

Or, if not a Jedi, someone strong in the Force, someone who despite what darkness all beings carried, was so bright, and so good.

"But first, I think you'd better tell me, just where you got that lightsaber."

"If Jakku's warm, then, yes. I agree." Anders gives her a faint smile as he leans against the wall. He comes up here every now and then to look at the sight of the valley, though lately there's less appreciation and a great deal more guilt.

"I could offer to stand near you, if it helps? But it's very cold." And he's in robes, with no coat over them. One day he'll get one.

It certainly doesn't make much sense, what she's working on, but Sam has been around enough to know she was tinkering with something. It reminded him a bit of Cyril putting together his traps, but there certainly weren't any pieces he could name.

"What you working on?" he asks casually, peering over the side of the table he's standing at, a sandwich wrapped up in his hand.

"I don't know about any Jakku but there's always the Western Approach and the Hissing Wastes if you're looking for warmth."

Ciri says it idly, yawning tiredly as she approaches. She forgotten her travel worn cloak back in camp but does not seem too bothered by the cold wind.

"I'd suggest the Anderfels too but that place is best avoided for now."
