Despite her currently being unsure of how to deal with her conflicting emotions concerning Anders, Hermione has to keep herself from immediately jumping to his defense. And she apparently gets no say, especially since most people think she's a demon anyway and are probably waiting for her to slip up just once so they can do to her what had been done to that poor boy in the cavern.
