"Well, not exactly. The Doctor was pretending to try and get the man he knew -- Zaroff -- to think he was on his side. What he was really doing was figuring out what the man doing there in the first place. He wasn't a native, you see, but a scientist who'd claimed he'd come to help the Atlanteans."

And he'd had his own motives for being there, but Jamie knew he'd get back to it. In the meantime, there were escapes to tell about, and he shifted positions just enough to get slightly more comfortable before going on.

"While he was there, though, the Doctor found out what was going to happen to Polly, and he figured out a way to stop it. He always does, you know. In the meantime, Ben and I met a couple of the other workers who'd found a tunnel out, and we used that to make our escape, with only a few wee hiccups."
