Before people see the shard in Rey's left palm, they definitely assume mage. The staff usually worn slung across her back certainly looks like a mage staff. She looks confused for a moment by the question, as well as the unexpected audience, before a look of dawning crosses her face and she smiles a little, shaking her head.

"My staff is just for hitting things. I'm not a mage." Which she realizes sounds like a lie when she was clearly just floating rocks around, so she holds her hand up, palm open. Even though the arm warmers she wears cover half her hand, the green glow is unmistakable. "I'm from a different universe."
