She's not going to waste further mana on him, instead using her staff to do the rest. Doing so triggers an effect, and she stiffens in surprise upon feeling it, not anticipating that there was more to discover about her powerful and ancient staff. Apparently, she was wrong. But this isn't the time to marvel at it; directly afterward, she Fade Steps over to Garahel to help him before taking on the Venatori mages.
