Excuse Merrill while she completely ignores all of that in favor of the cat. It's only the fact that Purrelden seems to want Jamie to pick her up so badly that keeps her from dropping Honeysuckle's reins to scoop her up herself. Instead, she puts her free hand on her hip, frowning. Anders would have brought his cat with to fight Darkspawn. The fact that she's here...

She does drop Honeysuckle's reins now, dropping down into a crouch and extending a hand toward the cat, making kissing noises. She wants to get a look at the cat, see if there's any signs of what might have happened to Anders (and, by extension, Alistair) while she looks her over.
