Well, he was better than most he had come across, and frankly he trusted herbs over the magical workings. He just couldn't wrap his head around it, not fully, despite the fact it seemed to work a lot like the medical instruments of his day. Just with... magic. But that was the problem. There wasn't a reason he found that what they did should work, and it frustrated him, made him distrustful to a degree. He preferred the medicine sellers' herbs, something he could understand, to that. It might sound boorish, even ignorant, but it was how things stood in his head.

"Oh, my friend, you know me hardly at all," he laughed wryly. "I think in my world someone just had an aneurism from those words being uttered."
