HAPPENINGS

Rebuilding in Kirkwall continues apace; by now, most debris has been cleared away. The exceptions are particularly large or hard-to-reach pieces—a large stone segment of the destroyed stairs that's resting against the cliffside, for example—that may eventually be chiseled down and carted away or may become permanent parts of Kirkwall's scenery, depending on how valuable their composite materials are. The permanent scar in the cliffside has left an open view of some of Darktown's tunnels, one in particular that once ran parallel within the cliff wall turned into a long ledge from which Darktown's residents can observe the city and those on the stairs. They've been blamed for occasional attempts at arson or other damage to the wooden bridges and stairs constructed to fill in the collapsed portion, and there's a heavy guard presence there now.

Otherwise, the city seems to be getting back to normal, for the most part. There's still an increased likelihood of finding someone crying in public, but the markets are open and the immediate gratitude for Riftwatch's role in fending off the attack has faded into a general friendliness: welcome in the tavern, but no longer getting free drinks.

Current shortages: Wool, cotton, beeswax products, paper, glass, olive oil, garment dyes, wine, leather, tobacco, citrus fruit, tropical fruit, rice, sugar, tea, metal goods due to the destruction of Tantervale and capture of Starkhaven plus most places' refusal to trade with Tevinter. (For which goods come from which place, see the Trade Map.)

Reminders: The Gallows now has a night ferryman, allowing members to come and go at all hours. As a general rule, the organization is small enough and people work together closely enough that someone going missing would be noted during the course of a normal workday, so if something happens to cause your character to be AWOL, alert their coworkers and division head OOC so they can do something about it IC. And if you're unfamiliar with Kirkwall, here's a general map.

WEATHER

Kirkwall's emergence from winter is agonizingly slow this year. The chilly grey weather that reigned for much of Drakonis continues into Cloudreach, and when the temperature does rise it does so abruptly, bringing fog, heavy humidity, and unseasonable thunderstorms. Mid-month there begin to be a few days here and there of sun and pleasant spring warmth, but their false starts; each time, temperatures plummet again and the wind whips in off the water, leaving farmers in the city markets grumbling about a poor start to the growing season. It's not until Bloomingtide that the skies clear and weather warms in earnest and then it's shockingly hot, months of winter followed by a week of mid-summer before finally, spring.
