The system is fine, despite whatever nitpicky complaints he may have about it. Without it, he wouldn't have learned nearly as much as he already has, and he only wants to supplement his studies with notes to help him keep it all straight. But it's difficult, if not impossible, to shake off seventeen years of strict conditioning that admitting fault constitutes weakness.
