"We call them humans, here. Or 'shemlen' or 'shems', among the Dalish and city elves." She glances sidelong at him upon hearing that last comment, not sure it bodes well if he truly lacks said fear. "It would be wise not to underestimate the danger that the beasts of the sea present. The substance you see in them is known as red lyrium, and it has corrupted them thoroughly. Exposure has driven people mad and corrupted them physically, as well; it is a painful, horrific death. But that inevitable fate has not prevented the substance from lending strength to these dread creatures, in the meantime. If we are to escape, it will be a close call, I'm certain."

The mabari growls quietly at mention of red lyrium, not liking the substance one bit. He leads them over to where the tents are being assembled; nothing fancy, but they'll keep the elements out. "Good, progress is faster than I had hoped. You are not the first to arrive from beyond the rift,; we have learned to anticipate such events, and prepare for them as best we can."
