"We have stories about sirens, mermaids, and leviathans," Waver said. Some were stories he knew well, others in passing. "Krakens too, but as it turns out, there are indeed giant squids." And they were pretty unsavory, but for more personal reasons that no one save Rider knew about. No one liked a magically summoned tentacle monster threatening an entire city. "I...I admit, we only have humans back home, so coming into a place with dwarves, elves, and Qunari has all been an exercise in accepting a completly new reality."

It wasn't something Waver would admit to anyone who wasn't a Rifter but in passing. The learning curve of sure, yup, people who'd get mistaken for minotaurs of sorts are real, among other elements.

Happy wiggling sharks is a much cuter thing to think about than the steep contrasts of reality. "That's a sight I need to see one day. And ah, right. Boats. Things like this," Waver gestured to the deck and to the masts. "They were part of a major age of discovery, but were replaced with ships that didn't require sails to move. Instead, they relied on other power sources like steam and coal."
