'Templar' means nothing at all to Sam, as is evidenced by the blank look he gives her. She speaks a bit stiffly, perhaps, more formally than he's used to being addressed - but something in the way she speaks and holds herself reminds him of Strider, somehow, and his defensive posture doesn't last.

"Well, I'm no gentlehobbit, and I haven't got any title like you're wanting," he explains, never even considering that as the only hobbit here, he could well take any title that he might wish. "But you can call me Sam."
