Martel earns a reprieve; Sabine takes her time digesting this thought and trying to decide how it ought to settle. She wants to object, because the People contributed so much to the world before their legacy was dismantled, but then, where does it begin and end, even in this world?

She watches her feet sink into snow as they walk.
