She didn't move for a little while, but eventually released River to reach
down and take her hands, and lead her silently into the castle. The fear
was there, now, batting against her ribcage like a trapped rabbit, making
her pulse race just a little faster. But her mind was steadfastly clear,
and she was slowly managing to beat down the unthinking traces of panic, as
well. Focus on the present. Warm hand wrapped around cool fingers.
Her room was small - probably had been a broom closet, at some point. The
cot took up nearly the entirety of it, and it was sparce - nothing save the
cot and a box with a candle on it. A book, old and worn so far that the
cover was unreadable. Her bag lay beside the bedside table, still as packed
as the day she came, as if she was constantly afraid she would have to
leave, again, and needed to be ready. She gestured for River to take a seat
and fished out a small pack of cards before joining her on the cot.
"My brother and I used to play cards," She murmured, her voice a near
whisper, almost a secret. And maybe it was. She hadn't spoken of her
brother in a decade.
