Wily, yes; subtle, no, and Benevenuta is - not displeased. She has always considered Mal Reynolds a good man; a criminal, mind, but a decent enough sort for all that. There is a place in her ideal world for such people, and she doesn't begrudge him the one he's carved out in this far less ideal place.

So the smile is a little smaller, and a little less - threatening. Well; they both know he wouldn't see her coming if she meant him ill. She considers her next moves - perhaps she will slide some work his way, quietly. Not a peace offering, not when he is so amusingly easy to distress, but an acknowledgement.
