fleurdesel: left, stern, serious (A waste of magic)

"This is not the Fade, Knight-Commander. Intent does not shape the world nor the will of those in it. That you have affections is your own affair. That you, in your station, in the precarious position the Templar Order finds itself within the Inquisition, choose to pursue an unwise relationship makes it a public one. No matter your intentions and loyalties as this has been laid bare so readily since neither of you thought anything of embracing before the fire in front of a multitude of members of the Inquisition- scouts, mages, templars alike- it is a public matter." And what is public is well known, what is whispered becomes confirmed, becomes fact, becomes questionable.

He is the highest point of authority for the Templars of the Inquisition, second only to Cullen who is no longer a Templar but minds them all the same. He is a man well in his majority courting a man barely stepping into his- and he thinks nothing of it? He feels he must pursue it?

"The fact that you have pursued this at all calls into question not only your desire not to do him harm, but your character and suitability to your tasks. Think of your station, Knight-Commander. Were he a templar of the same age would you ever entertain such an attraction? Were you his age and felt similar desires towards one of your superiors, would they have reciprocated?" How is it possible with a disparity of two decades for Salvatore to offer meaningful consent to this relationship? How is it at all possible that Alayre trusts this so completely, discounting the possibility that he is being lured in by a honey'd trap? How is any Orlesian of his age and station so blind to the Grand Game as to think nothing of this? "As this has become a public matter, I am addressing my public, professional concern on behalf of what we are attempting to build in the Inquisition. Knight-Commander, I am gravely concerned that you are considering the outcome of this, the political fallout, and determining to continue it."
