One of the benefits of having spent most of her time since the Mire hanging around Skyhold and helping with odd jobs has been people watching, just listening to what they talk about when she's fetching and carrying, or when she's relaxing at night in the tavern. She's learned just as much about the mages and templars from that as she has from talking to them but all of it is long and confusing.
"I grew up knowing nothing but freedom - a mother’s rules are different to any sort of law and I obeyed them better than other things, the way she could wield silence when you upset her, it’s something to behold - so being curtailed? Well I cannot imagine being friends with any jailer." Not that she's ever come close enough but she does know some of them now and imagining being anything more than civil just seems impossible.
Still, if Sam is happy, she can be happy for him. "Do any of the Templars have news then? I assume they can come and go more easily as guards would?"
