WHAT: Painting and gossip
WHEN: Now-ish
WHERE: A half hour’s ride outside the city somewhere pretty
NOTES:
[ The day might be brisk in the shadows, but it blooms delightfully warm in the sun— which is the first sun in a week, and so Alexandrie is taking the day off. Lady Barra, she decides, after peering down at the quality of the light on the changing colours of the courtyard with some satisfaction, is taking the day off too.
Supplies, horses, an invitation, and an amiable little ride into the countryside later they are set up side by side, and Alexandrie is extending the line of her horizon all the way across her canvas directly through the middle of where that barn ought to be if she cared a thing for barns. ]
...I cannot blame her too much, [ she is saying, ] it is en vogue in Kirkwall to have ones hair styled so.
[ A pause, while she considers what the new life of the barn ought to be, begins to reincarnate it as a pond. Then, direly: ]
In Kirkwall.

[ sonia smiles -- well, grins, because alexandrie always does make her laugh. she's enjoying the chance to spend time together, outside the city and outside the studio. she is herself less concerned with editing the landscape, but she's thinking of trying something new with color. for all she likes to paint, she's never been very experimental. ]
We should have compassion for our poor sisters, helpless victims to bad fashion trends. [ thoughtfully: ] Perhaps some rehabilitation would be in order.

[ Alexandrie cleans her current brush with a brisk flourish and picks out another, dipping it into the paint she’d mixed a bit before. ]
I would like to know at whose salon someone said ‘do you know what is beautiful? The architecture of Kirkwall,’ and met with enough agreement to precipitate such a tragedy.
[ She is briefly adding leaves into trees with the sort of accusatory force that implies a belief that it was their salon, but soon returns to more measured dabs. She will not risk ruining a brush (or a tree) for the sake of emphasis.
