Ellie doesn't avert her eyes. The scars aren't a surprise, but the volume and depth of them are. She's had plenty of her own, but those are deeper, far more deliberate. Her expression sobers, but doesn't turn to pity; it just gives her more of a measure of him. More respect for what he's survived, teeth bared.
"Weren't you the one out here telling me that falling in love was supposed to be worth it?" Ellie says, tilting her head to one side as she watches him. The linen's messed up his hair -- she reaches out across the narrow bed to tousle it back, letting his ears show again. He doesn't look right with parts of himself all covered up.
"I mean, not that you love her, but like-" Ellie waves her maimed hand in the air, frustrated. "Y'know. It hurts but it's worth it and all that shit?"
