As always, it is gratifying to hear his train of thought repeated back to him. Hearing the logic in it is pleasant. John has sharpened a certain set of instincts since his work in Riftwatch has increasingly skewed towards a different sort of diplomacy than wooing pirates. They aren't wholly divorced from each other, but there are some obvious differences in what sorts of charm one must employ. Adapting has taken some careful study.

But regardless—

"If Riftwatch cared only for what those who hold some sort of leadership position thought, we'd be a very different organization."

One might say there are even too many opinions within Riftwatch. Maybe.
