Fate might understand more than Anders thinks. It's possible. It's also possible, in Anders' opinion, that very few are quite as possessed by the need for freedom as he is, and the living under the current amount of risk he's bearing. He doesn't know where Fate falls on the scale because Fate is a complete enigma.

"I appreciate the asking, and don't expect a promise," is the response, though. Far milder than his curiosity. "Respect is rather crucial when you're learning something. If you don't respect your teacher, you won't heed them properly, and you won't learn all that you otherwise could. ...I'd be interested in their name, however. Some idea of who I could potentially bribe."

He has some shame. Just none when it comes to bribery.
