He’s eventually scavenged a long pole — it had once been a sturdy boat hook from someone’s small boat, parked and overgrown in their driveway — and it’s not as well-balanced as the combat staves he’d once trained with, but it gives him some reach. He’s quick with it.
It’s still not a gun, though.
So he sits on watch at night in whatever rotting house his small group has holed up in, because at least he can still be an observant pair of eyes. He’s quieter than usual, with that pole sitting across his knees, staring contemplatively out into the night.
The doctor can still help out with medical treatment, however. Maybe you’ve been injured by a scrap with the Seraphites or the WLF. Maybe someone’s been hauled back into camp bleeding, and the doctor rises to his feet and hurries over, already rolling up his sleeves. Please, let him feel useful.
