The arrow staggers the clicker, one more stops it with a gargling screech, but Ellie can already hear the crying somewhere off in the buildings. The howls and the faint screams, the sounds of them tearing out of their holes.
She makes sure everyone is behind her, following Abby, before she makes a break from behind to guard their flanks. As she runs she stows her bow, scoops up half a broken bottle from a gutter.
