Loud.

The noise, he'd have expected in theory, semi-familiar now with guns and explosives, but the experience is something else. The crash of the creature ramming into metal, the detonating nail bomb, the cacophony of shotgun blasts, all echoed and reverberating throughout this underground cavern, noise enough to send ripples across the water had it been undisturbed.

For a second, Marcus is too dazed to be of any use, ducking behind one of the load-bearing pillars and catching his breath through the claustrophobic seal of the mask. But only a second.

Moving, then, around the other side, water sloshing around boots, the drag of mage armor leathers that gleam in the deep red light. Breastplate, greaves, chain, at odds with the long-barreled weapon he'd been offered, currently in his hands. An additional rifle, slung across his back where his mage staff would be. He doesn't, right now, have his mage staff, left somewhere with the knowledge that in the optimistic likelihood they make it out alive, he'll find it in the Crossroads.

It's of no use to him here.

But half of magic's deadliness is the willingness to use it. He sees Ellis break out of range of it, sees the Rat King begin to move again, and moves to intercept. He had not had any opportunity to try out the weapon he is holding, save to be shown how to use it, knowing its limitations, so it is with faint hope that Marcus points it, and pulls the trigger.

Sudden brightness. The gust of flame is borderline silent compared to the concussive noises around it, but explodes outwards in a sustained wall of heat, fanning broadly and rippling like water as fire engulfs the Rat King, first blue then bright orange. Its screeches take on a different tenor, and for a moment, it's lost as it rears backwards, and Marcus pushing forwards a step.

The Rat King slams backwards into a nearby parked car, pinned for the moment between fire and the metallic bulk behind it, which slides a foot through the water before catching against another.

Hopefully, others make use of some free shots for the several more seconds he has of this.
