But Jude's implying it's more deliberate, and happy. Because of memory and joy. That the impressions left behind can be something good.

"Can I talk to them, if I see them?"

It hits him like a very sudden wave after the words leave his mouth, the deep remembering that this is not his, that none of this is meant to be his, that none of it even really, truly exists. What happens if he sees the spirit of a long lost shifter of this clan? What would he even say if he can talk to them? He doesn't know these people, has no connection to this land, only knows what he does of the society and culture from what Jude's told him. He's an outsider. He's...a rifter, adrift in a space and time that is not for him.

They're going to lose this. They're going to find the hunk of magical rock and all find themselves spat back out all different kinds of naked and exhausted. He likes this sweater. He likes that there's running, drinkable water in convenient locations. He had missed how clear the sky could be while in New York, had truly wondered if their sky had no stars, but here it's vast and endless and the constellations are different and instead of the sound of honking cars it's animals and howls of question and howls of return and it feels like belonging even if he's just outside of it. He likes seeing Jude in his element, surrounded by people who love him, who are like him.

Jude is radiant with beauty when he's awash in the light of love.

And they're going to lose that, too.
