Grunts and groans of effort, clashing weapons, quick-patter rapid footfalls sound all around them, but muted, somehow, distant.

"You're less angry than I expected. Or scared. Not that you should be, and I understand you've probably seen enough rifters not to get too terribly concerned when one shows up with weird magic, but, you know—"
Ness cuts herself with a huff and a roll of her eyes, looking to Gwen with an expression that pleads for her to be put out of her own misery.
