It's weird to hear a compliment like that from someone who isn't from his clan, and Merrick feels his face heat up a little. He looks determinedly away and gives a noncommittal shrug.

"It's not hard to do," he replies.

Of course it's an apology, out of the goodness of his heart. It has nothing to do with the way his stomach growls rather loudly shortly after he speaks.
