Ellana doesn't think Gavin's a fool. Maybe a little reckless, but not a fool. He's brave to leave home and walk into the unknown, managing to walk back out again. It's what she's longed to do, and it wasn't until now that the opportunity to leave in a group came about.

"It surprised me too. Pel's First; she shouldn't have left." There may be a tinge of bitterness in her voice, if only because Pel has an important role in the clan. Ellana is Hearthmistress, a job that's already been taken over by someone else in her absence. She's always tried to find a place that felt like it fit to her -- the mage who never learned how to lead or learned all their history to pass on as Keeper. She thought she might find her place here, and now Pel's here too. Beleth is another oddity. For as much as she dislikes humans, Ellana can't see why she's volunteered.

"And Beleth will cause trouble if she doesn't stop to look at the bigger picture." Maybe she shouldn't be talking about causing trouble with Merrick. Surely he's caused five kinds of trouble already. This is why Ellana prefers Gavin's company. They're of like mind when it comes to the world around them.
