Astrid takes a handful of trail mix and then shoots Vlast a look, part-horrified and part-delighted: “Oh well now I absolutely have to see you try to eat one of our giant spiders. Although… I’ve never tried, not sure if it’d kill you.”
It’s a nice echo of their first meeting, offering food to each other. This is how she usually passes the time in the wilderness anyway: perched as lookout for quarry, grazing on snacks.
“But also your world sounds so similar. Like, oddly weirdly similar? I wonder if the Fade knew; it must’ve.” She points an almond at the Blasted Hills in front of them, gesturing: “Whenever there’s a Blight with a shitton of darkspawn about, the land itself gets blighted too. The earth rots, the trees die. It’ll heal after time, ‘course, but it can take ages. I was maybe seven when the Fifth Blight happened and I remember hearing a bit about it, the lands down the mountain being all fucked. Unlivable. There’s sometimes still a bit of blight around. Sounds like yours might’ve been worse, though.”
