When she sees a glimmer of movement in the corner of her eye and hears the splash of water, she grins at the clouds. Good. He’s not neglecting refreshment out of prissy propriety. Astrid jack-knifes in the water so she sinks again, head now the only part above the surface, safely looking over at him. (Nice shoulders. She notes it distantly; Jayce might be taken but look, she can admire a little bit of the scenery.)

“Nah, they know that they’re sharin’ domains with everyone. And mine might be…” Astrid mulls it over for a bit, kneading water into her hair before concluding, “The Lady of the Skies. Not that I don’t respect a giant fuck-all mountain man, but she’s got the sky and the wind and the birds and the dead. She looks after the souls in her domain, after you cross over, so she’s a good one. Birds everywhere, too, so she just feels, I dunno, more present.”

This is the polite followup question, but she really is curious: “How about where you’re from?”
