The others send the pair somewhat baleful looks, but there’s a sort of casual, easy competence with which the Riftwatchers address the problem, and the sorcerer finds that he appreciates his companion’s attitude. Straightforward, matter-of-fact. This is a routine encroachment of the Fade into the material plane: annoying, yes, but considering the other more lethal magical anomalies this could’ve been, this one’s not bad. All they have to do is get them down, then probably block off the ballroom for a few weeks until the effect subsides.
A burst of Strange’s telekinesis flings the rope up, and on the second try, a baron manages to catch it and anchor it while others start to shimmy up-down, nobles helping the others with weaker arms. Whatever they were expecting today, it probably wasn’t climbing day in gym.
Once they reach the midpoint, nobles start falling from the ceiling, landing and bouncing on the sheets with a flurry of skirts and a shriek, a comtesse even declaring “Oh! That was fun! Could we do it again, do you think?”
And under supervision, they’re all retrieved, more or less healthy and hale except for one guest who sprains their ankle on the landing. There’s no payment for Riftwatch’s services expected — indeed, there’s still some irritation that there wasn’t a flashier, easier solution — but they receive some grudging gratitude from the Baroness de Dreux regardless.
