Ness looks between the skull and Stephen, observing how cool he is with talking to a possessed skull, and how the skull isn't attacking him somehow, and it's not that she's concerned with appearances that much, but

"I was startled," she says, or insists, and then winces for how petulant it sounds. Rather than linger on that, she picks the skull's box back up and, after a moment of hesitation, brings it closer to the sticker roll. Helping?

"A job well done? Like, for artisans, or craftspeople?" Is this in place of monetary compensation, are people in Stephen's world paid in gold star stickers? That seems ethically dubious unless the stickers are real gold.

"I want to touch it," the skull demands, but when Ness takes an obliging step forward it wails "but I have no hands, I can't touch anything without hands! You," either of them, but somebody's gotta do it, "touch it and tell me what it feels like!"
