"For students? Oh, for high marks, correct answers, things like that?"

Ness questions Stephen even as she accepts the stickers from him, awkwardly shifting the skull box to cradle it between the crook of her elbow and her body, but the question is quickly forgotten as she rubs the sheet between her fingers and frowns thoughtfully.

"It's... the paper is two different textures, one on either side. The side with the stars is slick, a little, slippy—not like it's wet, but—"

"Alright, I'm done with that now," the skull interrupts. Ness blinks down at it, bemused. "I can't feel it and so I don't care. Let's get a move on, then, where are we going?"

The expectant question hangs in the air and Ness's jaw drops a little, working to find words that won't quite come. She looks between Stephen and the skeleton for direction; the skeleton stares back, unhelpfully impassive.

"I don't think we're supposed to take you out of the Necropolis," she starts, nervous—

"Nonsense!" barks the skull, directly cutting off the end of her sentence. "They forgot I was even here, they won't care if I leave. They forgot me," the skull says in a watery tone that begs the question: can spirits cry??

Face drawn in pleaful desperation, Ness holds the box out to Stephen—please help, she doesn't know what to do about this at all.
