There's a fleeting suggestion of a smile at her reaction, almost gone before he turns back to his mother as well. "I'll introduce you properly once we've dealt with this," is clearly anticipating a question. "Do you have a rough guess of how many there are?"

"Oh, who knows?" is more aggravated than fearful. (Then again, under the circumstances, maybe Madame Orlov just grateful to be dealing with a problem that's alive.) "At least three or four, probably, but I couldn't swear to it."

"We can manage," Vanya says firmly. "Wait out here, and if Father comes back, tell him to wait with you. This shouldn't take long." Not arrogant, just frank: He and Gwenaƫlle are used to fighting Venatori and demons these days. A few opportunists taking advantage of an older couple are unlikely to pose much of a challenge. On which note, he adds to Gwenaƫlle: "There's an alley window that doesn't latch properly, and I doubt they've thought to check it. Unless you had that fixed," to his mother.

She waves the two of them on. "I doubt it. I don't know which one you mean." Possibly true, possibly not, but either way they've an entrance.
