He wonders what the story there is. The man is so clearly struggling, but keeps pressing on nonetheless. What drives him? Is there a way to help? Manfred sets the tray down nearby and bounces a little where he stands. Emmrich looks between his assistant and Cedric.

"Thank you, Manfred. You can go look at the flowers if you'd like. Come back if I call you, please."

Manfred brings up his fists and squeaks, happy, before scampering off again. There's that, at least. Now Emmrich can turn his attention back to Cedric.

"Wards and the Watchers," he answers. "We have so many protective wards up, meant to help against countless dangers. Obviously they're not perfect," else they wouldn't have had the issues caused by the Venatori, "but they do a great deal of work. And then there are us, the Mourn Watch, the countless rituals we perform and the guarding we do. We keep an eye on it all, and as we know it so well we can see when something has changed and react accordingly."

It was a difficult, time-consuming job. He loved it completely, and he would miss his duties here while he worked with the Riftwatch. But this too was needed. The Fade and veil were involved, and he was the resident expert on that. Riftwatch required a true Watcher.
