"...less a call and more a siren's song." A promise. One step- and nothing. A long fall perhaps but, no more ache in his bones. No more guilty eyes he cannot bear the weight of. No more consideration for lives he has to argue to save. No bitter disappointment that he was rescued that he cannot possibly articulate without seeming terribly ungrateful. Nothing. A void to swallow him whole and leave nothing of him on this side of the Veil.
