Kirk remains where he is, and, for once, quiet, letting Sam calm the man out of the peak of his rage. He resisting rolling his eyes at some of the accusations and some of the insults (even if he didn't understand them, he knew an insult when he heard it). He glanced at Sam once he was addressed, and back to the merchant.
"I need work because I'm new. I need basic items such as clothing, and the ability to buy extra food and items necessary for living," he explained. "I'm perfectly capable of simple, hard labor, so that's what I went looking for."
His piece done, the merchant grunted to give his side. He was a meat seller and had called Kirk back to bring around a case to the front. When he had come out, he'd asked Kirk if there had been a sale, Kirk said no, and then he knew he'd stolen because several links of sausage were missing.
Kirk glared, because he knew it sounded bad, but he honestly hadn't done anything. He had no reason to steal extra food when there was a mess hall they could go. While the food was not the best he'd ever had, he wasn't going hungry by any means and he certainly didn't look it. That, and no other merchants had trouble with him.
