He doubted they did it with the high-tech machines that Kirk's uncle used, or with the specially bred kind of grains and vegetables that produced more nutrients and were less harmful to the soil. But on the whole the farming might not be terribly different.

Of course, that's left by the wayside thanks to his revelation about his job, which he figured it would be. That always got people's attention.

He pauses a few steps ahead and looks back at him, face perfectly straight - which is easy considering he's only telling Sam the truth. "Not sure about an air elemental, but I've been with a few aliens, yes." More than a few, but this was not about Kirk's prolific sex life. "And before you jump to the conclusion I'm making it up, ask yourself why I would say I do something so positively ridiculous when it will only get me strange looks and labeled as crazy. I already have a stigma with the shard in my hand, I really don't need people thinking I'm not sane either."

He raised his brows, proud of himself for such a logical argument. Or what he thought of as logical. He didn't think Spock would find fault with it, and that was really the ultimate test of any argument in his mind.
