WHO: The Righteous Snow Teams & anyone who wants to watch (and laugh, and judge.)
WHAT: A GIANT SNOW FIGHT.
WHEN: 13th July or whatever the IC equivalent is.
WHERE: In the valley near Skyhold.
NOTES: ooc post 1 and also ooc post 2. The snow fight itself is closed to those that signed up, but the observation/chilling afterwards stuff is open. No warnings to add here, please put any that come up in the subject lines!

Also we have room for one more last minute sign up!

Wrap up warm! It probably goes without saying that certain medical personnel will be less than sympathetic to those who come to them with colds after this.

The valley near Skyhold has never really completely defrosted, given how high up they are in the Frostbacks, and Adelaide's students have found themselves working with an environment very receptive to the reintroduction of cold, even in the summer months.

The battle field is impressive. Each of the six teams has their own fortress, forming a rough circle on a thick blanket of snow. Each fort has one flag flapping over all others, the only one each has that cannot be stolen (or, at least, would be very challenging.) Their other seven flags are considerably smaller, and where they are depends entirely on how the team opts to defend them. The vast majority of the snow is white, but there are generous patches within and around each fort that matches that Team Fort's colour. Each fort is a little different, but comes with a catapult build inside it, and scattered around the field are large snow drifts, some battering rams, and a trebuchet. (No trebearchet, sadly. We can always dream.)

Every team member is given a sash of their team colour, and a round wooden shield that is so padded that hurting someone with it would actually be quite an accomplishment.

Far enough away to be spared the fighting, but not to entirely escape the chill that has been renewed in the valley, are some benches. There is warm cider and some food being served, and people are welcome to come and watch (and laugh, and judge) and/or hang out with the noble warriors once the fight has wound down.

IC-ish RULES AND STUFF.
1. NO WEAPONS, NO MAGIC.
Assume there is unlimited snow - some dyed to match team colours - so there are snowballs galore! Every person also gets an extremely well padded round shield as a chance to defend themselves. Don't use the shield as a weapon, pls and ty.

2. FLAAAAGS.
Each team gets seven flags that match their team colour. The IC goal is to capture as many flags as you can, but OOCly this is flexible and timey wimey and you don't need to worry about keeping track of flags bc who has time for that?

3. NO VIOLENCE.
Or, more accurately, no going out there to hurt people - it is a snow fight and there is siege equipment, let's not kid ourselves. That said; no tackling anyone smoller than you. If you hurt someone, apologise and don't be an ass. Don't make an NPC referee come after you.

4. BASICALLY JUST HAVE FUN.
Characters can't be eliminated unless they're being a big jerk, but no one wants that to happen because friendship is magic, or something. If it's fun and its awesome then odds are it's totally fine, unless it'd put a character in danger.

There will be an IC prize for winning, which will be ICly due to happen after Orlais since that opens up so soon after the snow fight.

A quick recap on how the winners will be determined OOCly - in three weeks time I will do a tally of points based on comment count and tagging around done per team. Three weeks will hopefully allow everyone a chance to dive in even if unexpected RL things happen, as they are wont to do, and not put on too much pressure with the Orlais plots opening up.

How to get points:
1. Open starters! Every team will get 2 points per team member that posts an open starter.

2. Tag around! Every team will get 2 points every time a team member tags a new person. (If character A tags characters B, C & D they will get 6 points total for tagging around - three different threads with character A and character B would still only result in 2 points.)

3. Keep threads going, hop around and have fun! Every comment by a team member will be worth 1 point. (Multi-comment responses ie. one tag split over two or more comments will still only count for 1 point.)

4. Be hilarious, do something awesome, idk persuade me that something is worth an extra point. NO SERIOUSLY, TELL ME I love excuses to reward people for puns and/or being absurd.

5. IC rule breaking may result in points being taken away because how rude.

"What the--" Sadira dives to one side, as his shout registers. Her reckless dive wasn't super effective, as her legs stil got hit with the snow, but it allowed her a chance to roll up onto sn elbow and lob a snowball back towards him. His makeshift catapult might have put him out of range from the yellow colored snowball, but she isn't giving up yet!

"Hey isn't that cheating?!"

Even if heaving a shovelful of snow at people leaves him wide open, he can otherwise use it as another shield! He doesn't need shield-shield or shovel-shield, though, because it splats in the snow a couple feet from him.

"It's not a weapon! And, c'mon, if we're given catapults, this is just...another catapult!" He's readying another dig in the snow. Watch out. "Trebuchet? Huh, I don't actually know the difference. Eat snow!" It's not an attack he can keep up, not unless he drastically starts reducing the size of his snow piles he's flinging, but one good thing about the work he's putting in on crossbows and swordfighting is arm strength.

So he flings another pile in a wide horizontal arc, aiming to hit as many people as possible. Sadira included.

Huffing, she glowered at him or at least tried to. It's hard to look angry when you're trying not to laugh.

"Trebuchets I think hit from further away... counterweights or something." His effort of digging out more snow gave her a chance to dart forwards-- which was harder than it seemed with the snow. She hoped that by closing the distance, it might cut down on the amount of snow getting flung at her while she raised her shield up defensively. It also means her next snowball will probably hit, if not, chances are she definitely will, because she isn't stopping either. Hope you're not attached to your legs Church because she is coming for them.

"Something something physics eat snow!" When he looks up to fling, she's oh god she's so much closer throw it throw it. In the panic, the snow flinging is more erratic, but it still gets everywhere.

Okay so a thing about the rules is that you're not supposed to tackle people smaller than you, and while that sucks for qunari, it sucks for people like him that aren't small. He's gonna be soaked if people keep tackling him today. When he sees she's still coming he panic backs up. Back up back up back up...

The spray of snow is deflected for the most part by her shield, though some of it does find her way down into her clothes making her wiggle and writhe as she gasps. It slows her charge somewhat, but not enough to keep her from trudging ever closer. If she can't tackle him, driving him into a snowbank or a patch of ice will work just as well.

Okay. Okay okay okay. Maybe ditch it for now and go for, besides backing up, grabbing actual snow with his hands to pack a ball. If he can just...get her in the face, then she'll totally back off, and she'll be blinded enough to just...be blinded for a little, right?

Backing up, of course, means that he's not actually watching where he's going. Not watching where he's going means that, well...she doesn't actually have to tackle him to make him trip over some divot in the snow, flailing backwards, and into the snowbank behind him.

"...Wow, a self-wipeout. I'd say that's an all-time low, but..." He's kinda done worse.

Snowballs and what not aside, she was laughing as he took a dive. All her trudging slowed down a she rested her hands on her knees trying to catch her breath. The combination of cold air, mountainous altitude and the rigors of being on the run for a long time left her feeling a little out of shape.

"At least it saves me the pain of having to tackle you." She was going to have so many bruises by the end of the day.

"You're saying this dumbassery saves me a tackle?" He struggles for a couple moments before getting himself sitting up and brushing snow from himself. "Damn, maybe I should take a dive more often! A lot of these guys are just sneaky and out of nowhere."

It's a lazy toss, but he'll at least throw one more snowball at her. They're still on different teams after all. "Maybe you should sit out for a little before you fall into a bank like me."

Sadira doesn't even try to stop the snowball with her shield and just lets it turn to powder against her hip. "I know. I've already been hit in the face a few times, tackled by a flying elf and ended up chasing after my team's flag a few times." She looked away from him, over towards the sidelines where warm drinks and the possibility of a hot meal was waiting.

"I think you're right. A break might be good." Her attention drifts to him floundering in the snow then trudges over to offer him a hand up. They may be on opposing teams, but she can at least offer to be nice. "Do you want a break as well, or should I start running?"

He eyeballs her offered hand before taking it. Eh, if she takes advantage of his trust, let her. "Man, a warm drink sounds excellent. And somewhere to sit without sneaky flying elves shoving snow in my shirt. I'm pretty sure I'm several degrees colder now. Fuck it, goldie, let's call a time out and make sure we don't collapse and get buried."

As much fun as it might be to drop him back in the snowbank. Her sense of fair play wins out. There will be other opportunities and other people to trick. For now getting warm seemed like a perfect idea.

"Oh you met Merrill too did you?" she smirks softly, shifting her attention towards the place set aside for people to take a break. At least it wasn't too far off. Looking back at him, she grinned, "I'm Sadira by the way, but if you wish to keep calling me Goldie. I guess I won't stop you." She wasn't going to call him Foamy, though, no matter how funny it sounded.
