The last day of Drakonis brings a familial attache to Skyhold. François is a stern, formal, and unyielding man at the beginning of the month- hounding Adelaide to make certain she meets each appointed suitor, one for lunch, one for dinner, chaperoning the meetings in hopes of finding a suitable match for the sole single LeBlanc. It becomes rapidly apparent that despite his best efforts, it is for naught. Adelaide, despite being forced into moderate finery and made to sit and bear the company of these men, is less than amused and determined to at least get some paperwork done between meetings. Or during if the conversation is that dull.
The set up for each, unless the suitor has his own mind about the matter, remains the same. Simple and elegant, a table in the garden that is public enough to not be improper, private enough to not invite undue observation, and comfortable enough to suit their needs. The meals are as fine as François can manage with Skyhold's resources and the coin provided for the meetings, each accompanied by Antivan or Orlesian wine. As the month progresses Adelaide's temper grows short and François' patience goes thin. Deviating from the Dossier is not recommended but- desperate times? Desperate measures.
He starts seeking out the clean and respectable looking, dragging them to the table and plopping them in the chair and instructing them to talk, for the love of the Maker.

[ Is he cute. Is SHE cute??? ]
I would think that the world ending would be a good reason as any to get the matter settled sooner rather than later. But--um, yes, quite so.
[ She covers her mouth for a moment, to hide a shy smile. Sitting across from Adelaide, for a brief moment she feels like a teenager all over again. No!! She is an adult and she is discussing the prospect of marriage and children like an adult. ]
I was quite upset about some events, and he comforted me for no other reason than to help me, though he owed me nothing. I will say, he confused me for a moment. I've been trying to learn more about human culture, but, ah, I hadn't realized that there were multiple meanings to getting on one knee. [ She laughs a little, rubbing the side of her neck sheepishly. ] I nearly had a heart attack.

[ In circles- Mages do not marry, they do not have children, they do not build relationships and families beyond the platonic and academic. Romance isn't suited as strong emotion begets demons. Spirit-Healers are at all the more risk.
But it was endure this or wait for a surprise marriage. Better to endure the lesser of two evils. ]
That may very well make him one of the first few bearable names on the dossier. [ A beat. ] Well. Swearing fealty, proposing, adjusting one's greaves, offering an associate a literal leg up...

...Your family wants you to.
[ That's more than enough reason, surely. ]
He's a good dancer, too. I think your biggest risk in joining with him would probably be becoming the target of ire for portion of the female population of Skyhold. Perhaps a few men, as well. [ She coughs. ] Um, yes. I'm pretty sure he was...just getting down on my level, since I was sitting. But, um. Well, none of the books I've read about humans have involved adjusting greaves.
...Don't tell him I was confused. It was but a few seconds.
[ Plz. ]

[ Calling on the sentiment of siblings and blood relations will achieve nothing. ]
All of that aside- he is a Seeker as well, yes? Much as my mother might find this an advantageous match- it is not trouble I wish to borrow. And...I will not.

Beleth sets the matter aside for musing on later, seeing little point in it for the moment. ]
Well, yes. He is a Seeker. I can see how that could...bare issue.
[ She pauses, plucking at her scarf thoughtfully as she glanced aside. There's thoughts she has, about the whole Seeker business, opinions she wants from a circle mage. But while Beleth feels comfortable discussing nagging family, and perhaps more freedom for mages, that is more tricky territory. ]
I admit, I had no idea of the existence of Seekers, until I came here. I still don't know a great deal, truthfully. Ah--do you know much about them? I apologize if, um. That's a stupid question.
[ Expanding her knowledge, banishing ignorance. That was a safe place to start. ]

[ That is the most common thing known of them. Adelaide, personally, had little experience with them before the Inquisition. Hear say is one thing, actually meeting them? Another entirely. ]

They're the law the Templars report to. Aleron told me that the Seekers report directly to the Divine.
[ She pauses for a perfectly timed moment, to allow that to sink in, glancing at Adelaide. ]
But I guess they don't do that anymore.
[ An organization that can control the Templars that has no overheard. Worrying. Though, it may be just the same as the Inquisition. ]

[ What authority they answer to now...
She doesn't think on it. There is nothing she might do and very few ways it might cut at her, she cannot waste the time it would take to worry over it. ]
They will rally, somehow.
no subject
Probably. One more question--
What's a dowry?
[ This is important. ]

[ They each have their place and they share so everyone might live comfortably- at least that is her roughest interpretation of the culture. ]
It is a sum of property or money or influence as things often go in Orlais, that a wife to be brings to her husband's family when they are married.

[ She pauses, thinking over what Adelaide told her. ]
Is that why the wife gives those things to the husband's family? To compensate for taking him?

The bribe makes sense, if the woman is of a lower standing than the man, and his family would gain less from the marriage. Does the groom have to pay anything, if he's the one that's of lesser standing?
