[He's gotten Velanna to laugh. But he's not going anywhere.]
I live to be a modern-day example of the past and how we should all bend into tiny preconceived molds for the sake of those who profit from said molds. When people recognize this, I move on.
no subject
I'm afraid we aren't meant to be. I never excelled at fitting into molds. [As Ilshae often liked to point out.]

[He and she would never have worked. She and Justice, on the other hand... He doesn't want to think about that. Nor does Justice, because passion requires desire and only demons desire.]

I don't know about that. The first boy who ever kissed me said I kissed like a dead fish. [Although she suspected he had largely kissed her on a dare. Her clan sucked.]
no subject
[Her ears are red. He should ease up a little on the flirting, but it's difficult.]
Look. No one's great at kissing their first time. It's a weird process, where the lips go, do you involve tongue, oh, they have teeth too, and so on. That has no reflection on you, and a great deal on him.
no subject
[She's only half snapping, and she crosses her arms in front of her, resting them on her knees.]
However, I have no positive experiences to reference, so I am the problem. [She doesn't sound entirely sad about that, more like she's just stating a fact out of one of her books.]

If you want to learn about kissing, if it matters to you, I'd suggest speaking with Zevran. He doesn't judge, he's highly talented, and I know he's a skilled teacher as he's working with me on something else.
no subject
[Now she sounds a little exasperated.]
Even if I did I would not need to- I'm not- Zevran is not-
[And now she gives up on what she's attempting to say with an aggravated sigh, although the redness in her ears has spread to her cheeks.]
no subject
[He trails off, looking confused.]
Do you not have any interest in kissing at all then? And why not Zevran? He's skilled, kind, discreet...
no subject
[She falls into a sullen silence for a moment, her arms crossed tight around her. Eventually she speaks again.]
If I were to kiss someone, I would prefer to have some affection for them.
no subject
[That's to all of it. Pressing her has never been a good idea, and romance and sex are tricky territories to wander as it is.]
And the good news is that should the affection be returned, they'll not care what skill level you do or do not have with kissing yet.
[Or they shouldn't. He's judged people on kissing ability before, but never when he's felt anything for them. Then again, he hasn't felt much for many at all.]
no subject
[She doesn't have a lot of practical to base that on.]
I see the True Calling happening before that ever does, however.
no subject
[It's said thoughtfully, with a glance back at camp, before he shakes his head.]
But you may be right. Some never find that, and they've no need of it. It's even safer to be without.
no subject
It's also lonely. [She finally says, leaning her chin against her arms.]
no subject
It is. And it's exhausting to be lonely.
[It's part of the reason he'd been willing to come to Skyhold, after all. The plan had been to finish out his usefulness serving and being around people rather than being out, alone, trying to heal and help and always looking over his shoulder.]
People are... People need people. Connections. It's worth the risk in the end.
[Hopefully. He hates the risk Nathaniel is taking even as he desperately wants what they have; it's less Anders' heart and far more Nate's physical self that Anders worries about being hurt.]
There's pain, but there's a great deal of joy.
no subject
[She exhales, glancing over at Anders.]
I don't know how to be someone that another person wants to spend time with.
no subject
You say, after I've come over because I wanted to spend time with you. I realize friendship and relationship are different levels of time desired, but you've at least achieved the one.
[Not with many, sure, but she's started.]
When we first met, I only kept bothering you because making you snap was... safe. Now? You're a friend, Velanna. To myself, to Nate... I daresay Bethany may consider you one as well, and there are no doubt others. I'd know who, but my stalking days are long past. Be someone you like, and look for what there is to like in others.
[Except Templars. And blood mages. And slavers, and qunari who believe that mages are sarebaas, and so on and so forth, but he can't and even shouldn't go down that list.]
There will still be people you don't like and that's fine. But there will also be more you do like, and who will like you back.
no subject
Ma serannas. It's... good to know I have friends. I could never quite say that, before. [She'd used the phrase to describe those who had left the clan when she did, but that wasn't accurate. None of them had really liked her, just seen her side of things.]
no subject
[He shakes his head. He'd thought himself entirely alone, expected to remain that way for the rest of his very short life.]
But I'm glad you know it now, and that you've friends.
